How To

How to Make the Best Brandy Alexander Recipe

The first step in any cocktail recipe is to find the right ingredients. We will be using Cognac, which, as the name suggests, is a French distilled spirit that is made from fermented wine. It is clear in most cases, but it can sometimes be aged in oak barrels. You can purchase cognac from specialty liquor stores as well as online retailers like Amazon.com.

The next step is to add simple syrup. Simple syrup simply means sugar dissolved with water. One cup of granulated white Sugar will be dissolved in a small saucepan. Heat on medium. Stir the sugar until it is completely dissolved (about 5 minutes). Add enough cold tap water to cover the sugar by 2 inches. Let sit overnight. Strain the sugar crystals out of the cheesecloth and dispose them. For up to 3 weeks, store any liquid in an airtight container in the fridge.

We will combine Cognac with simple syrup to make our Brandy Alexander Cocktail. In a shaker, add the Cognac and half of the ice cubes. Fill the rest of the way with simple syrup. Mix vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain into chilled martini glasses. Top off the Brandy Alexander with a splash of soda water and garnish with a lemon twist.
